Videos of George’s Performances

George was a regular at Swallow Hill’s Hootenanny, hosted by Harry Tuft the first Friday of each month. He often recruited Joel Kaplow to accompany him on piano, and sometimes others to help with harmony, guitar, and mandolin. Most of the clips in the first video were filmed by Joel’s friend Jacki at Swallow Hill, but there are one or two that were recored at the home of Mike Shainline, and several that were recorded at La Dolce Vita coffee house in Olde Towne Arvada, one of George’s favorite music venues.

Besides George, you will find others appearing on some of these clips, including Sawyer Ward singing harmony, Ruth Price playing mandolin and guitar, Mike Shainline playing guitar and singing harmony, Ginny McKay playing harmonica, and Roberta Holbrook singing harmony. The title of the video is a reference to a comment that George often made about how many performers wore hats on stage, and the variety of hats they wore. He made it a point to express his personal distaste for wearing a hat, and was caught once or twice wearing one in jest. That video can be accessed here.
